About Ms. Shinnick
Greetings!
I am a fourth generation Californian who grew up in Culver City. After high school, I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at San Diego State University. I received my Education Specialist credential from California State University at Northridge in the Urban Teacher Partnership Program. While there, I earned a Master of Arts degree in Special Education in the Accelerated Collaborative Teacher Residency Program. I also completed clinical training in behavior modification and intervention at the Vista Center for Behavior Analysis. My credential includes autism and English Language Learner authorizations. Before coming to Calahan Elementary School, I taught at Mt. Gleason Middle School and Millikan Middle School.
I am passionate about helping children gain skills that will lead them to success in academics and in life. I truly believe all students can become excited about learning, and I am committed to doing my part to make sure my classes are safe, interesting, and well-organized. I feel blessed that I have been given the opportunity to make a difference in childrens' lives.
When I am not teaching, or working on projects for the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family. I am passionate about golf. I was a Callaway Golf staff professional for six years. During that time, I was fortunate enough to win three Re/Max World Long Drive Championships. I also worked as a golf instructor for the Better Golf Academy. These days, I play amateur tournaments when I can find the time, but I mostly play for fun with friends.
Looking forward to a great year at Calahan!
